Auschwitz-Birkenau 1940-1945. Concentration camp and death center

From the 12th to 20th of February 2022 (EXTENDED TO 27th FEBRUARY)

On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance 2022, the Institute for the history of the Resistance and contemporary society in the Biellese, Vercelli and Valsesia areas organizes the documentary exhibition "Auschwitz-Birkenau 1940-1945. Concentration camp and death center", created by the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris and disseminated in its Italian version thanks to the support of the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region. The exhibition will be exhibited in Biella, at Palazzo Gromo Losa, from the 12th to the 20th of February 2022.

Of all the concentration camps that the Nazis set up for Jews, Auschwitz has the highest death toll: around 1,100,000 people were killed there, of which 875,000 were killed by gas upon their arrival. If Jews represent by far the main group of victims, no fewer than 70,000 non-Jewish Poles, more than 21,000 Sinti and Gypsies and more than 15,000 Soviet POWs were killed or died in Auschwitz. as well as several thousand other categories of prisoners. Making use of accurate cartography and rich iconographic documentation, the exhibition aims to reconstruct the history of the Auschwitz concentration camp and extermination center, with a thematic study on deportations from Italy. The proposed narrative is meticulous from a scientific point of view, but also careful to address a wide audience, especially young people and the world of school education.

Create your visit to the Biellese

Not only to the village of Piazzo

A visit to the exhibition is the ideal opportunity for a weekend to discover our territory. Industrial history and archeology, lots of nature just a few steps from the city with exceptional green areas such as the Burcina Park and the Zegna Oasis, the Sanctuary of Oropa and other spiritual places, the Ricetto di Candelo, a splendidly preserved medieval jewel, Lake Viverone and much more. Without forgetting the flavors of Piedmontese cuisine, our fine wines and the textile "know-how" that in 2019 earned Biella its entry into the Unesco Creative Cities network.
