Ten years of research, talent and material: "Fatti ad Arte" — the event celebrating the meeting between fine craftsmanship and contemporary art — returns to Biella from October 16 to 18, 2026.
For its tenth edition, the event confirms itself as a key milestone for the culture of Italian craftsmanship, transforming manual technique into a poetic and ethical reflection on our times.
To mark this important milestone, the historic setting of Palazzo Gromo Losa hosts, from August 22 to October 18, the exhibition project that, as usual, precedes the event. This year's proposal explores the complex relationship between humankind, time and the surrounding environment through two unique exhibition paths, conceived by Fabrizio Lava, with a powerful visual and emotional impact, featuring wood shaped by nature and reclaimed textile fiber as their protagonists.
The exhibition thus demonstrates how the recovery of industrial waste and respect for the biological rhythms of matter are not merely aesthetic choices, but genuine ethical statements. An invitation to the public to pause the rush of everyday life, step into the city's historic spaces, and listen to the silent stories held within the objects.
The protagonist of the first exhibition path is Italian-Iranian artist Elham M. Aghili, a leading figure in international fiber art and recent winner of the 2025 LVMH Métiers d'Art Special Prize.
Her monumental installation, provocatively titled "All Roses and Flowers," created by weaving together reclaimed yarns, industrial waste and iron structures, transforms the exhibition space into a living, pulsating organism. The work depicts an exhausted flower from which red trickles flow, sap and blood, wound and rebirth. The small blooms emerging from the scarred material represent a "stubborn disobedience," a powerful metaphor for geopolitical and social resilience — a mirror of communities wounded by history who, in silence, continue to imagine their own future.
In dialogue with the installation, the exhibition also features "Toranj," a collection of sculpture-jewelry inspired by the central medallion of Persian carpets, a symbol of harmony and balance.
By reworking scraps of leather and fabric, the artist creates wearable works that represent small gardens — demonstrating how cultural memory can merge with an ethics of sustainability.
The second exhibition path, "Germoglio" ("Bud/Sprout"), curated by Nurye Donatoni, celebrates the meeting between two masters of cabinetmaking: Luciano Tousco, an artist from Valle d'Aosta honored with the title of Maestro d'Arte e Mestiere (MAM), and Omar Barbero, a contemporary cabinetmaker from Turin.
Although they express themselves through different languages — Barbero's rigorous, geometric and minimal style versus Tousco's organic, sinuous forms shaped by the tree's own curves — the two craftsmen share the same philosophy: an almost sacred respect for the rhythms of nature and a rejection of the impact-driven logic of mass industrial production.
At the heart of the exhibition is the collective work "Germoglio," a burl trunk recovered from the woods of Gaby (Aosta) and transformed into a sculptural piece of furniture. The tree, not forced but interpreted, becomes a symbol of rebirth, showing how even a piece of furniture can hold a story and move those who observe it.
