On the occasion of the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death, Palazzo Gromo Losa hosts the Marco Polo exhibition. The Impossible is a project curated by Irene Finiguerra, Fabrizio Lava and Gigi Piana which sees the Stilelibero Association as the leader.
An exhibition of contemporary art, photographs and videos which tells the story of Marco Polo's journey as a moment of encounter between an extraordinary variety of people and cultures. The Venetian traveler sought dialogue and discussion in a direct and open way and with no prejudice. His gaze is surprisingly modern and never ceases to fascinate: for this reason the organizers asked the artists to tell a journey that goes beyond our borders, encounters non-European cultures and opens our eyes to wonder and the unknown.
“If the Venetian had been afraid of some man a little different from him, if he had avoided him, perhaps we wouldn't still know where China is. Instead he faced a thousand differences one after another, letting curiosity overcome fears, and he wrote those differences with the enthusiasm of those who want to know.
Polo, the Million, learned the wonder of the world and decided to explain it from the darkness of a Genoese cell, after a quarter of a century traveling between lands, languages and faces never even imagined before.
After almost a millennium, are there still a few pennies of trade left of him, a shop in San Marco or some famous and rich heir? No. Not even his remains and his prestigious home remain, the former lost in time and the latter vanished in flames. The idea and the journey remain.
Know so as not to fear. Learning to live together. Let yourself be amazed by the amazement, dancing under the moons of any sky.
What remains of him is concrete testimony that dreams, even the craziest, scariest and most difficult ones, can change the world. The world is just waiting to be changed. Just wait for people to meet. Wait until you see how. How they meet. If they make war, the world will growl ferociously. If you shake hands, the world will smile with new dawns, full of wonders, and ready to open wide the arms of mountains and hearts of oceans to grant his most precious treasure. Future” .
